This Is An Amazing Story!

Julio Diaz has a daily routine. Every night, the 31-year-old social worker ends his hour-long subway commute to the Bronx one stop early, just so he can eat at his favorite diner.
But one night last month, as Diaz stepped off the No. 6 train and onto a nearly empty platform, his evening took an unexpected turn.

He was walking toward the stairs when a teenage boy approached and pulled out a knife.

"He wants my money, so I just gave him my wallet and told him, 'Here you go,'" Diaz says.

As the teen began to walk away, Diaz told him, "Hey, wait a minute. You forgot something. If you're going to be robbing people for the rest of the night, you might as well take my coat to keep you warm."

The would-be robber looked at his would-be victim, "like what's going on here?" Diaz says. "He asked me, 'Why are you doing this?'"

Diaz replied: "If you're willing to risk your freedom for a few dollars, then I guess you must really need the money. I mean, all I wanted to do was get dinner and if you really want to join me ... hey, you're more than welcome.

"You know, I just felt maybe he really needs help," Diaz says.

Diaz says he and the teen went into the diner and sat in a booth.

"The manager comes by, the dishwashers come by, the waiters come by to say hi," Diaz says. "The kid was like, 'You know everybody here. Do you own this place?'"

"No, I just eat here a lot," Diaz says he told the teen. "He says, 'But you're even nice to the dishwasher.'"

Diaz replied, "Well, haven't you been taught you should be nice to everybody?"

"Yea, but I didn't think people actually behaved that way," the teen said.

Diaz asked him what he wanted out of life. "He just had almost a sad face," Diaz says.

The teen couldn't answer Diaz — or he didn't want to.

When the bill arrived, Diaz told the teen, "Look, I guess you're going to have to pay for this bill 'cause you have my money and I can't pay for this. So if you give me my wallet back, I'll gladly treat you."

The teen "didn't even think about it" and returned the wallet, Diaz says. "I gave him $20 ... I figure maybe it'll help him. I don't know."

Diaz says he asked for something in return — the teen's knife — "and he gave it to me."

Afterward, when Diaz told his mother what happened, she said, "You're the type of kid that if someone asked you for the time, you gave them your watch."

"I figure, you know, if you treat people right, you can only hope that they treat you right. It's as simple as it gets in this complicated world."

Jay Z Planning Takeover 2?????

There is a concert coming out over the weekend that features T.I., Jeezy, Jim Jones and Nina Sky. Well, I am hearing T.I. is going to have an incredible set, but Ludacris is going to get all the attention. I am hearing Luda is bringing out Nas, Jadakiss, and Jay-Z. The strange thing is that Jim Jones is on the stage the set prior to Luda. Both nas and Jay have an ongoing tiff with J.J. Now, with this whole fight thing at the Louie store in NYC, I am hearing something is about to brew. I heard Jay is going to “address some things” at the concert and needs like five minutes.

Legendary Singer/Actress Eartha Kitt Dies At Age 81

American singer and actress Eartha Kitt, who has captivated audiences for more than 60 years died on Thursday (December 25) at the age of 81.

According to Reuters, Kitt died of colon cancer that was detected and treated two years ago, but recurred recently.

"She came back strongly. She had been performing until two months ago," Andrew Freedman, her long-time friend and publicist, said. "We had dates booked through 2009."

"She was certainly a legendary performer and while I think there may have been many imitations, she was an original," he continued.

During her long career, Kitt won numerous awards, including two Emmys, and was nominated for a Grammy and two Tony awards.

She also enjoyed musical success with such hit songs as "C'est Si Bon," "Let's Do It" and "Just an Old Fashioned Girl." Kitt was also was widely associated with Christmas because of her hit "Santa Baby." The song, recorded in 1953, went gold this year. She received the gold record before she died, Freedman told Reuters.

Eartha had a daughter named Kitt as well.

Sting Lyrical Battles confirmed

Dubbed 'the Final Frontier, the settlement of all arguments', Sting 2008 will have no clashes, instead there will be lyrical confrontations.

There will be an evolution in the 25-year-old event to be held at Jamworld, Portmore, St Catherine, on December 26. While lyrical shots will most definitely be fired, the promoter of Sting is trying to keep the 'greatest one-night show' as peaceful as possible.

When THE WEEKEND STAR spoke with Sting director, Isaiah Laing, he emphasised that they will ensure that there are no clashes. "It will be a lyrical confrontation, a tune-for-tune kind of thing cause when yuh seh clash, it fuelling a war vibe and we nuh like war. There are no winners in war but in a tune for tune somebody has to win," he said.

So far, six persons are being mentioned as possible candidates for clashes at the event. They are Ninja Man and Merciless, the 15-year musical rivals Beenie Man and Bounty Killer and the most talked-about face-off between Vybz Kartel and Mavado.

Face-off

While he is not sure about two of the artistes, Laing is already guaranteeing fans a face-off between Kartel and Mavado as well as Merciless and Ninja Man.

While many persons are expecting the continuation of the lyrical feud between Beenie and Bounty, Laing was unwilling to confirm a face-off. Laing did, however say he wouldn't be surprised if the two faced off.

"I've known these guys for years and they have always been on top, how di ting set wid Mavado and Kartel on top of them, they will want to come and take back the hype," Laing said. The promoter believes the two veterans could steal the spotlight from the battling newcomers.

As for Ninja and Merciless, Laing said: "I had dialogue with Ninja and he's saying he killed Merciless three times already but if the crowd wants him to kill him again, he will. While Merciless is ready and waiting."

In an effort to ensure that these lyrical confrontation happen, Laing said that a number of security measures have been put in place.

"We're being very careful. We'll definitely be securing the stage. The problem most times is not with the artistes but with their entourage, so we will have security around the entourage," he said.

He added: "Few members of each entourage will actually be allowed onstage. The two artistes will be entering the stage from different sides, security will be onstage to act as barriers."

Added to these measures are reminders for the artistes from the organisers and others about keeping the event peaceful. At the launch of the event recently at the Jamaica Pegasus, Dr Donna Hope (University of the West Indies lecturer) urged the entertainers to let the better words talk.

This is not the first time Laing has attempted to change the 'clashing tradition' of the event. In the past, the promoter said: "we try to change it (clashing) cause we have come under pressure at times from society, but it doesn't work. This year, Sting is stepping up the game not promoting a war vibe, we basically trying to tone down the ting."

Outside of lyrical confrontations, Laing said there are other performers to look out for at the show such as Terry Linen, Stevie Face, and Flippa Mafia. He said he also expects excitement from the Monster Empire and Kiprich. In terms of the women, he expects strong performances from Spice who is lyrically loaded and Pamputae who is a crowd favourite.

For the event, the promoters are anticipating a turnout of at least 40,000 patrons.

Michael Jackson Is Terminally Ill With A Lung Condition?!

Rumors are swirling about the health condition of 50-year old Michael Jackson after a writer making a quick buck penning an autobiography on Michael leaked word to the press about the singers private health conditions. According to the Daily Express:

Ian Halperin, a former award-winning investigative journalist on America’s respected Rolling Stone Magazine, has said that the singer is suffering from a rare lung condition and needs to undergo an emergency transplant operation. According to Halperin, the 50-year-old has been diagnosed with Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency, a genetic condition that can be fatal in severe cases. And he claims the singer is now so ill he can barely speak and has lost as much as 95 percent of the vision in his left eye.

The writer added: “He has had Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency for years but it’s gotten worse. He needs a lung transplant but may be too weak to go through with it. He also has emphysema and chronic gastrointestinal bleeding, which his doctors have had a lot of trouble stopping. It’s the bleeding that’s the most problematic part. It could kill him.”

Wow! This is crazy and we hope it’s not true! We love to crack jokes on MJ but it would be sad for him to be so rich and have some much access and not get treatment for this sickness he allegedly has. Hopefully someone will release a statement soon aside from Jermaine Jackson who reportedly told Fox News (we haven’t seen the clip) that, “He’s not doing so well right now. This isn’t a good time.”

Estelle Defends Dizzie!!

In an interview with The New Statesman, Estelle has criticised Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman for his treatment of Dizzee Rascal during a recent interview .

"I don't ever want to diss another artist that I know is in the same struggle and grind as me, but it was the look on Jeremy Paxman's face. I was like, 'He [Paxman] is taking you for an idiot right now! Did no one brief you?'" says Estelle of the November interview based around Barack Obama becoming president. "I felt so disappointed because Dizzee has come so far as an artist and a businessman that to go on there and represent us, represent all the musicians in the UK, it was like Oh. My. Gaawd."

One question Estelle was particularly opposed to was the "Mr Rascal, do you feel yourself to be British?"

"That was out of line," said Estelle. "Paxman's not going to get away with asking me do I think I'm British. That's disrespectful - you know, what do you think I am? I'd want to question him - and make him feel like an idiot."

Dizzee's camp has so far yet to make a comment on the Newsnight appearance, although Estelle isn't the only one to voice her disappointment in the interview. Since the show aired, there has been a lot of discussion over the interview, although the Beeb have defended the show: "The topics being discussed were race, nationality and identity, and this question was a natural part of that discussion."

We (Skee.TV) shot the “Set It Off” video for Kardinal ft. The Clipse, and Jimmy Iovine loved it and sent it to Dre direct (since we had the Beats By Dre headphones in it). Then, Dre loved the song & video so much he was inspired to do a verse on it that night (I got called by the label the next day saying Dre rapped on it after being inspired by our video- a pretty good feeling). This was when he was still trying to come out with Detox this year and he wanted to start hopping on records… needless to say, those plans later changed, and thus the remix never came out (it just leaked somehow today, but was done months ago), but it is 100% real and official…

Eminem Says “Dr. Dre Will Be Producing The Majority Of ‘Relapse,’”

In an interview with Billboard, reclusive rapper Eminem has finally shed some light on his highly anticipated, upcoming album, Relapse. Saying him and Dr. Dre are “back in the lab like the old days,” Em cleared up the recent reports about working with Swizz Beatz on the project.

According to Em, the dynamic duo are back at it as Dre will be be providing the beats for most of the album.

” I don’t have chemistry like that with anyone else as far as producers go — not even close,” he said. “Dre will end up producing the majority of the tracks on Relapse. We are up to our old mischievous ways … let’s just leave it at that.”

Recently New York producer Swizz Beatz told MTV News that he has submited five tracks to the Detroit rapper and hinted that they put together a sequel to Em’s 2000 hit, “Stan.” Shady refuted the claim.

“I haven’t worked with Swizz on this album,” he said. “There isn’t a ‘Stan 2,’ and there won’t be. Stan drove his car off a bridge and I’m not writing a song as Stan’s ghost. That would just be really corny.”

During the interview Em also addressed the leak of an unfinished song called “Crack A Bottle” that he’d apparently been working on with Dre. On the leaked version, which also appears on mixtape DJ Big Mike’s “4th Quarter Pressure,” fans can hear Slim using his vocals as a reference point for Dre. And Em’s not too happy about it reaching the public prematurely.

“It wasn’t close to finished, and it even has me doing guide vocals for Dre as a suggestion of how he could lay his verses down,” he said. “It’s like someone catches you peeping in your window before you got the Spider Man costume all zipped up! Nobody is supposed to see that. We are gonna finish it up though and get it out there how it’s supposed to be.”

Relapse, which was originally supposed to come out at the end of ‘08, is now scheduled for a Spring 2009 release.

Dizzee Rascal Arrested

Rapper Dizzee Rascal has been arrested in south-east London following an alleged incident involving a baseball bat, police have said.
The Mercury Prize winner, whose real name is Dylan Mills, was held on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in Sevenoaks Way, Orpington.
The alleged incident happened at about 1530 GMT on Friday.
Mr Mills, 24, was released on bail to return to a south London police station later in December, police said.
A spokesman for the rapper refused to comment on the incident.

The Last Ever Jump Off Review

What a night. Sad to see you guys go.
Blessing from the Dready!!

Taken from www.jumpoff.tv

It's a very sad December, it's the last ever Jump Off... but you know we still have to go out with a bang. The place was crazy packed out, bunch of old and new faces coming to show support. In the house this month was the one and only DJ SCRATCHATOR of Flipmode and hip hop's MISS INFO both over the waters to show some love. Also lurking in the VIP corners was British model and actress RACHEL RITFELD who came down to help pick from the 12 Miss Hip Hop UK contestants. Hosted by RAP6 along with resident DJ MANNY NORTE on the wheels of steel as always. DJ SHORTEE BLITZ and DREADY also showing support. With the hottest talent lined up, the night's events was guaranteed to leave a lasting memory..

Miss Hip Hop UK Photoshoot
The girls came out looking delicious in their dresses, posing in all sorts of inviting positions. To add to that, they went off to get changed and they came back out with less clothes on each time! The mandem were happy

3 on 3 Freestyle Dance
KOFI, MALCOLM and Mr. Boy Blue himself, KENRYCK, 3 Jump Off legends were on the floor looking for some challengers. Nobody stepped up, no surprise there. Thankfully we were treated to a showcase of exactly why these 3 dudes are in the Jump Off hall of fame

Crew Dance
Once again one of the crews dropped out last minute when they saw their competition. WASTE!

Pay Per Laugh Comedy
This month's comedian had to be special, we had TOJU from Channel 4's Balls of Steel fame bless the crowd with some jokes. TOJU didn't waste any time and gave us plenty of hilarious hip hop observations. He also had the crowd in stitches with his spot-on impressions including the late Biggie Smalls

Fashion Show
Tonight it was Raw Blue owning the catwalk, the clothes were especially fresh, hopefully they'll still have stock for the summer cause some of them wouldn't keep anybody warm during the following months. Big up Raw Blue for a great showcase

Jump Off's Got Talent
There was a never ending queue of people wanting to show off their special talents, we had beatboxers, rappers, singers, sweetboy duets etc etc. Eventually RAP6 found us a winner in a singer who had the ladies shrieking in amazement.

MC Battle
It was a grudge re-match tonight between veteran street battler ARKAIC and recent Jump Off favorite MICKEY NEGRO. ARKAIC destroyed MICKEY NEGRO in a street battle viewed by millions but tonight it was revenge for MICKEY NEGRO as he showed that preparation is key. He even managed to let the crowd finish his bars, a must watch once it goes online.

Pillow Fight
UK vs US, undefeated champ BIANCA was joined by her friend CHICA to face some confident and eager americans in a 2 on 2 pillow fight special. After one round of feather fighting, RAP6 decided that one member of each team looked hungry for victory so he gave them half of the stage each. BIANCA won, again..

After a memorable night, the crowd were locked inside for a special treat as Flipmode's DJ SCRATCHATOR took over on the decks and blessed the crowd with bangers 'til people couldn't walk anymore.

It's been emotional, make sure you keep coming back here for videos of the night, Miss Hip Hop UK, Jump Off classics from the vault (including many of today's UK talents before they got big) and also check up on news about what's next for jumpoff.tv

PEACE!

Unauthorized Bobby Brown Autobiography Hits Stores Today

The tumultuous life of Grammy award-winning singer Bobby Brown is now the subject of The Truth, The Whole Truth, and Nothing But…, a new “unauthorized biography” of the artist’s life.

Initially, the book was a private memoir for Brown to reflect on his volatile 20-plus years in the entertainment industry.

Author Derrick Handspike, a longtime friend and co-writer of Andre Rison’s autobiography, urged the singer to seriously consider transforming his memoir into a no frills autobiography.

The duo’s work resulted in a controversial 233-page intimate look into Brown’s life.

The book chronicles Brown’s life from his childhood, rise to stardom with New Edition, drug problems, relationships, and his explosive 14-year marriage to Whitney Houston.

While excited about the project, Handspike revealed that Brown inexplicably dropped out in the 11th hour, due to concerns about how his family would be affected by the illicit stories contained in the memoir.

“I had heard rumors that Whitney was trying to stop this book from coming out and that she was going to do whatever she had to do to keep it from being published,” Handspike states in book’s foreword. “I then started to wonder if Bobby had been influenced by Whitney not to go through with it. Whitney has been known, is known and will always be known as having a major influence on him. For whatever reason, Bobby, his lawyer and manager were not in a hurry to finalize the agreed upon book release deadlines!”

Despite this setback, Handspike made several changes to the book which legally allowed the go ahead for the project to be published, even without Brown’s final support.

“With all the hard work, time, and dedication to the project and money spent out of my pocket preparing this memoir, I decided to make the necessary changes to release it, Handspike stated. “I made the changes to revise the book so it reads as a biography in lieu of an autobiography.”

Bobby Brown was one of the music industry’s biggest stars throughout the 80s and early 90s.

After departing from the multi-platinum group New Edition in 1986, he scored a massive hit with his seminal 1988 sophomore album Don’t Be Cruel, which went 7X platinum and is a one of the best-selling New Jack Swing LPs of all time.

Bobby Brown: The Truth, The Whole Truth, and Nothing But… is published by Down South Books and available now at all major book retailers and www.downsouthbooks.com.

In related news, Brown has revealed that he is part of a new group named Heads of State featuring former New Edition group members Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill.

8 Mile Actor FOUND Hanged!!!!!!!

An up-and-coming actor who starred in EMINEM's movie 8 MILE has been found dead in an apparent suicide.

De'Angelo Wilson's body was discovered in a room at a commercial premises in Los Angeles. It is believed he had hanged himself.

Wilson, who played DJ Iz in the 2002 movie and also starred in an episode of TV crime drama CSI: NY, is thought to have died on 26 November.

According to reports, Wilson’s mother did not have enough money to transport his body to the family's home in Dayton, Ohio - so friends stepped in to help out.

Wilson had also appeared in several other movies including Antwone Fisher, The Salon, and Mercy Street.

Busta Apologizes For 'Arab Money' Misunderstanding

Only hours after expressing his outrage over Busta Rhymes’ controversial song “Arab Money,” Iraqi-born rapper The Narcicyst told AllHipHop.com that he received a personal phone call from Busta himself last night (December 8), apologizing for the misunderstanding created by the song.

According to Narcicyst, the two rappers spent nearly half an hour on the phone discussing Busta’s original intent in making the song, which the veteran rapper says was meant to pay homage to Arab culture.

The Narcicyst, whose family fled Iraq years ago after they were displaced by the political turmoil said he came to understand that there may have been a bigger culprit in Busta’s lyrical misstep.

“It was a thorough explanation and he was a very respectful man,” the Narcicyst told AllHipHop.com. “He explained to me his experience as an African-American man in the States and [it] seemed to me as an experience that I can correlate as an Arab being in the Middle East and having been displaced from my nation and seeing my country being bombarded in the media, being misrepresented.”

According to Narcicyst, Rhymes revealed that he didn't purposely disrespect Arab culture and that representing it "in a positive light" was important to his fellow rapper.

"He also acknowledged that it was definitely something that spun out of control," Narcicyst continued. "You know, when you put out a song, you can’t really put out an essay on why you put out the song. And it’s always hard to explain to the masses.”

While some YouTube posts of the song and/or video have already been removed from the popular website, there is no word on when or if the controversial song will be officially removed from rotation.

The song is already banned in the U.K., where award winning DJ Steve Sutherland was temporarily suspended by Galaxy FM, for playing the song.

As a result of Busta’s apology and The Narcicyst has also agreed to pull his response to the song, a track titled “The Real Arab Money.”

“This is an example of how two people can come together and create something bigger than them,” The Narcicyst concluded. “I’m a strong believer in truth and breaking stereotypes down and not allowing people to box you in. And this whole experience has been a huge eye opener for me. This is what Hip-Hop is about. Two brothers from another mother can come to a peaceful and just conclusion for all sides.”

DJ Suspended Over Busta's 'Arab Money'; Busta Replies To Critics

Busta Rhymes continues to face adversity in the United Kingdom, as the airing of the rapper’s latest single “Arab Money” has resulted in a popular DJ’s suspension.

Global Radio owns and operates Galaxy Radio, which broadcasts Steve “Smooth” Sutherland’s show in Manchester, Yorkshire, Birmingham, York Shire, the South Coast, the North East and Scotland.

Sutherland - a veteran DJ who has earned two MOBO Awards for Best DJ - aired “Arab Money” on Saturday (November 29) during his “Steve Sutherland Show.”

A representative for Galaxy said the station received a number of complaints about the track, which resulted in Sutherland's and a producer of the show’s suspension.

“Galaxy would like to apologize to all our listeners for the airing of this song. It was never Galaxy’s intent to offend its listeners and never will be,” the company said in a statement. “A full internal investigation has now commenced. Galaxy would like to apologize for any offense however unintentionally caused.”

Busta Rhymes addressed the song title with AllHipHop.com in an interview Monday (December 1), prior to Sutherland’s suspension.

“The most irrelevant thing can be justified as a reason to fire somebody nowadays,” Busta told AllHipHop.com. “Ain’t nobody safe. This recession has f***ed the whole game up and everybody is on they eggshells when they walk around. So I just feel like, that’s really more so what it’s about than anything else and until I start to get some direct awareness of the Arab culture having an issue, ya know, we’re going to continue to move forward with our campaign.”

The song has also drawn criticism from some Muslim Hip-Hop fans, who wrote to AllHipHop.com and explained the reason that the song may be offensive to some listeners.

“In ‘Arab Money Remix Part 1,’ in the chorus you used (‘Bismillah Ulrahman Ulrahim Alhamdullillah rab Ulalamen) which is a Quranic verse from the first Surah (chapter) in the Holy Quran,” a Muslim reader named Khalid wrote to AllHipHop.com.

“As an Arab and a Muslim it's prohibited to sing or cite a Quranic verse in combination with music and most Muslims will find this disrespectful," Khalid explained. "I'm afraid this misunderstanding will be interpreted as an offensive and disrespectful way by some people and I trust that you wouldn't upset and disrespect your Muslim and Arab fans.”

Busta, who frequently uses terminology familiar with those who follow the Five Percent Nation, which is an offshoot of The Nation of Islam, agreed he was not out to offend anyone with his latest single.

“I really only respect the Arab culture,” Busta Rhymes stated. “I ain’t really trying to pay no attention to, ya know, these little people in political positions and executive positions that ain’t Arab culture oriented people because a lot of the times, what are you really showing all of this concern for? Is it really concern for the people or concern for your job?”

Despite Rhymes’ sampled transgression, Khalid was sure that the rapper’s Muslim fans would forgive him.

“If someone did a sin without knowing it is a sin, he/she will be forgiven by Allah,” Khalid said. “Mr. Busta, if you are looking for a hot Arabic verse you want to use in the ‘Arab Money Remix Part 2,’ please contact me.”

Rhymes recently recorded a remix for the controversial song that features high profile artists Akon, Sean "Diddy" Combs, T-Pain, Ron Browz, Swizz Beatz and Lil Wayne.
